It's our last full day, Saturday, at Picacho Peak State Park in Arizona which means Mike is off work and can hike with me and Enzo!
We hike the Children's Cave trail--in the wind which makes it challenging though it's not a long hike. It's a beautiful hike up a small part of the mountain to a scenic overlook next to a small cave... though I fit into it just fine. Everything is in bloom and the desert is spectacular! But the wind is pretty fierce so we decide to do something else for the afternoon. Mike is feeling a bit better too so that's a plus.
We travel back to Tucson (about a half-hour) to go to the Pima Air & Space Museum! Wow... so much to see and explore there. I think we must have walked 6 miles. Some of these planes are gigantic--you have no idea of how big until you walk under one of these beasts. There's the Main Hangar (3 hangars combined into 1: Hangar 1, Spirit of Freedom, & Flight Central), 3 World War II Hangars (Hangars 3, 4 & 5), The Dorothy Finley Aerospace Gallery, The Arizona Aviation Hall of Fame, The 390th Memorial Museum (a separate museum on our grounds), 80-acre outdoor display grounds, Collection of 400+ aircraft and 125,000+ artifacts. There's other countries' planes like the Russian "MiG" and a section just on helicopters. I think we saw it all. Next time though, we should take a tour on one of those shuttle trams we kept seeing everywhere!
Of course, we have lunch at the museum restaurant called: 'Flight Grill'--the food was actually pretty good... but we WERE starving!
We get back to the RV and the wind is doing a number on our slide toppers so we bring in the driver's side so that nasty noise stops. The wind breaks our cute plastic side table and flings it into the bushes, so it's time to put away all our outdoor furniture and our rug since the wind is brutal. Since we are leaving tomorrow for our next destination, it just makes sense. Since I'm filming for a YouTube video I setup the camera to show us putting away all the outdoor chairs in the wind. I figure I'll speed it up and it'll look interesting. Little did I know that the wind blows the screen door open and our kitty Desi escapes... OMG! Fortunately Mike looks up and sees him make his get-a-way. Desi panics with all the blowing wind (he is a scaredy cat--so surprised he would do that!) and we frantically try to capture him before he runs away or gets into trouble. OMG. Talk about having your heart in your throat thinking the worst while we tried to catch him!
Kitties and Enzo stressing over the drivers' side slide being in... Of course Desi is the one playing with the fuse cabinet!
Come with us as we explore this gorgeous state park and Tucson, Arizona. Hopefully it will give you all some fun ideas for your next adventure!
